Turkey Stitch

The turkey stitch is such a fun looking stitch! It is fluffy and and really pops off your fabric!

Creating this stitch requires, creating loops, tacking them down, and then trimming the loops. You can create long fringe stitches or short, depedning on how much trimming you do.

This stitch is so fun because it feels like you are giving your embroidery art a haircut!

One of my favorite embroidery patterns that uses the Turkey Stitch is my Dahlia ‘Bishop of Auckland” embroidery pattern. The yellow fringe in this flower gives it an extra flair that is beautiful.

Stitch Along

Because of the craziness going on and everyone being stuck in their homes, I am going to be doing a #STITCHALONG with this new pattern! Grab this pattern, or a kit if you don’t have the materials, and come stitch with me!

Think of it as a little embroidery class you can take from home. It will be every day, March 30 – April 3, at 5 pm MDT.

Here’s how it works: Every day for a week, we will work on this pattern together. We will go step-by-step, from start to finish! By the end of the week, you will have stitched this entire hoop!

I will be doing an instagram live every day and those who are available can jump on and stitch with me. If you can’t make it to the live session, I will save the videos on my highlights each day and you can stitch with me when it’s convenient for you!

My hope is that this STITCH ALONG will allow you to feel like you’re taking a fun embroidery class, but in the comfort of your own home because #socialdistancing.

Make sure you’re giving yourself a break each day so you can stay sane and relax 🌿

Embroidery for Kids

I have so many patterns for adults, it dawned on me that kids would also love to embroider. Especially when everyone is stuck inside all day because of Corona Virus.

So… say hello to my newest product! 👋🏻 Embroidery kits for KIDS – a KIDDIE KIT as my husband likes to call them 🌿

Handmade Mother’s Day Gift Ideas

Choosing the perfect gift is always so difficult for me! Especially when I’m shopping for my mom. Often times I feel like whatever I get won’t be good enough because she could just buy it herself! She does have lots more money than me, after all 🙂

That’s why I usually go with something handmade! When you make something with your own two hands, no one can be mad about it (cuz that’s just rude). The time and effort you put into making something beautiful for someone is priceless.

This year, I’m gifting my mom a floral embroidered art piece. It’s something I know she will love because I made it myself and because it’s just really cute!

Another idea is this “Home Is Where Your Mom Is” hoop. It’s a lovely reminder that no matter where you live or what your circumstances are, home is wherever your mom is.

Give your mom the best Mother’s Day gift this year – something handmade, and made with love from the heart.

DIY Embroidered Clothing

Do you have a t-shirt you just wish you could spruce up, but don’t know how!?

Or may you have an old sweater that needs some new life!?

I love using embroidery to make a t-shirt or sweater come to life! Adding a little pop of color or some simple flowers can give any item of clothing some new life!

Anyone can embroider clothing! It may look intimidating and you may have a bunch of questions to help you get started! I’M HERE FOR YOU!!

One embroidered t-shirt I absolutely love is my “Pocket Full of Daisies” shirt! It started out as a plain grey pocket t-shirt and now it’s my favorite item in my closet!

Whenever i post a picture of embroidered clothing on my Instagram, I get SO MANY DMs. Messages range from “Wow! I love this shirt!” to “Wow! Tell me ALL your secrets! I want to make this too!”

This is why I created a PDF embroidery pattern that would allow others to create their very own “Pocket Full of Daisies” shirt.

This pattern teaches you EVERYTHING you need to know to create your own embroidered t-shirt! You will be able to create the “Pocket Full of Daisies” shirt, but you will also be able to use all my tips and tricks to help you embroider any piece of clothing. The pattern answers questions like:

  • Should I use a stabilizer?
  • How do i keep my shirt from puckering and stretching?
  • How do i transfer my pattern onto my shirt?
  • How do I secure the thread onto the back of the shirt?
  • Tips for working with stretchy fabric?
  • How do i wash my hand-embroidered clothing?

So yes, YOU CAN DO IT!! You can embroider your own clothing! Follow the instructions in this pattern and you will be able to embroider ANY t-shirt, sweater, etc!

Free Halloween Embroidery Pattern

I love doing seasonal embroidery patterns that I can offer my followers for FREE! This pattern is perfect for the Fall season!

This pattern is beginner friendly and would be super fun to do yourself, or with kids at home!

STEP 1: GATHER YOUR MATERIALS

To create this hoop, you will need:

  • your Thread Unraveled pattern
  • black embroidery thread (DMC 310)
  • needle
  • white fabric (I like to use linen blends)
  • 5 inch embroidery hoop for the web
  • 3 inch embroidery hoop for the spider
  • felt (for the back of the hoop)
  • scissors

STEP 2: DOWNLOAD YOUR PATTERN

STEP 3: TRANSFER YOUR DESIGN

Start by printing your pattern and tracing it onto your pieces of fabric. Trace the web onto fabric that will fit in your 5-inch embroidery hoop. Trace the spider onto fabric that will fit in your 3-inch embroidery hoop. I like to use a water-soluble marker to trace my pattern. You can also use a #2 pencil or whatever else you have found that works for you!

You can also visit this blog post for for help transferring your pattern.

STEP 4: STITCH YOUR DESIGN

Once your patterns are transferred onto your fabrics, you are ready to begin stitching your designs!

SPIDER WEB: To create the WEB, use 4 strands of the black thread (DMC 310). Use long back stitches to go over each line of the web.

SPIDERS: To create the spiders in the web, use 3 strands of the black thread (DMC 310). For the circle part, use a woven wheel stitch. For the legs, use a back stitch.

LARGE SPIDER: To stitch the large spider use 12 strands of the black thread (DMC 310). For the circle part of the spiders, use a woven wheel stitch. For the legs, use a back stitch.

STEP 5: FRAME YOUR EMBROIDERY

I love framing this design in the actual hoop because I love how the circular web and spider fits perfectly in the round frame. To finish off the embroidery hoops and make them look neat and tidy on the back, I like to back the hoop with felt. This way, it preserves the embroidery and looks great on the front and back!
